aldi baby food little journey organics

The response to my recent review of Aldi diapers, which you can read about here, showed me how curious other cost-conscious mamas are about Aldi’s Little Journey baby brand. I thought it might be helpful to share my experience with other products in the Little Journey Family.

We’ve been using Little Journey Organics Baby Food Puree since my youngest daughter started solids two months ago. For busy parents looking for a quick synopsis, my quick answer is that I would recommend this brand of baby food. However, my longer is more complex and nuanced.

Cost

Most folks who shop at Aldi or are curious about shopping at Aldi are interested in saving a few dollars, no surprises with this one. At .93 per puree pouch, Little Journey Organics Baby Food Puree is a dream come true. The average baby food puree pouch will easily cost you $1.99/pouch, at minimum.

Ingredients

When it comes to ingredients, Little Journey Baby Food Puree can spar with the best of them. The brand’s offerings are USDA-certified organic and EWG-certified, with no scores that exceed 2.4.

The only downside is that the primary ingredient in most of their offerings, with the exception of 2-3, is apple. It’s understandable why this would be the case. Apples taste amazing and babies love them. However, it seems that my daughter may be sensitive to the fiber in apples because when she consumes Little Journey pouches too frequently, for example, two pouches in a day, her stool is extremely loose, and the result is a huge mess. Not even the most elite diaper brand can save us from those blowouts.

To combat this, our pediatrician recommended incorporating more bananas into her diet, as bananas help to bind. This strategy has worked perfectly. So we’re still rocking with Little Journey.

Taste

No issues here. My little one can’t get enough of Little Journey Organics Baby Food Puree.

Convenience

The pouches are easy to use and well-made. We never have issues with leaks or messes.

Final thoughts

All that said, I would still recommend Little Journey Baby Food Puree. However, my suggestion is that you don’t make it your primary baby food source. Due to the high apple content, I would say when grocery shopping, buy half Little Journey Organics Baby Food Puree and half from a different brand without apples in their formula. Our backup brand is Plum Organics, whose formulas contain a ton of bananas, oats, grains, etc. By mixing things up, you can still benefit from the cost-effectiveness of Little Journey Baby Food Puree, but avoid the mess that comes from incorporating too much fiber in your baby’s diet.
